Photo: George LeMieux Quits Senate Race on YouTube

Former Sen. George LeMieux unexpectedly dropped out of Florida’s Republican U.S. Senate race today, thereby clearing the way for Connie Mack to become the GOP's nominee.

 

 

In a personal message to supporters posted on YouTube, LeMieux admits that he lacks the name identification, big-name endorsements and campaign funds of his opponent. He also admits that Mack's unwillingness to debate him played into his decision to stand down. "It is not my nature to step aside, but there is a reality to running a statewide race in Florida," he says in the video. "Without the resources or opportunity to debate, our message simply cannot be heard."
